Country Boy, City Girl Chapter 33After breakfast, Linda and I wandered from table to table together. Holly and Keith both agreed to explore the convention on their own today, so nobody else would realize we were all together. More than once somebody would come up and tell me how much they had loved watching the game the night before. A couple tried pumping me for more information, but I told them only that they had to return tonight for the final chapter.It was almost 10, and Linda and I were playing a card game about nuclear war I had gotten with my dad and Deana when Keith and Holly finally joined us. Good thing we didn?t need to go upstairs, it had been over 3 hours since Linda and I had left. I asked my dad if we could put the luggage in his car as the convertible top made securing it kind of impossible. He tossed me the keys and told me where he parked. We all went upstairs with a cart in hand and loaded everything up.Armed only with our backpacks and game supplies (and Keith?s guitar) we continued to watch the various games. I saw more than a few people this time running games inside of a city instead of in a dungeon. It seems like the idea of a city adventure had caught on with the players in the convention.But soon we all nodded at each other and broke into each couple going to another part of the convention. After Linda and I had lunch there was an announcement on the PA, and I found myself back at the registration desk.The leaders of the convention had made the decision to adjust the times a little bit. The final keynote presentation had been moved up, and the game moved to the main lecture hall. Apparently the day before it had become standing room only, and there were people out in the hallway listening in. When we got in the main hall a presentation on historic miniature battles was just winding up, and Gloria and her team were already setting up. Cables were being run to various cameras they were putting in place, and she was behind a complex board that had more slides, switches, and dials than I had ever seen before.Gloria spoke with pride about her baby, and laughed when I called it a mixer. ?No, mixers are for audio, this is a video switch.? She then spent several minutes giving me the basics on how it worked, and it was amazing! It had been donated by Mr. Cummings in exchange for their assistance, and had belonged to a TV station in Quebec which had just upgraded to a newer model.It was much later that I discovered that this was a donation that cost several thousand dollars. Of course, since it was a donation Mr. Cummings could write it off on taxes. The guy was really slick, I had to admit that. But slick in a good way. He got a professional quality videotape, they got experience, and the College got new equipment. All came out ahead.Linda and I headed to the ?Green Room? and cuddled for a bit as we waited. And I loved feeling her shiver slightly as I described that however lovely Gloria?s breasts had looked, I loved hers more. This time the room was again packed, with people standing all around the sides. There must have been over 300 people in there, and I was amazed. But we still quickly got down to business.Now this was much more of a conventional dungeon crawl. There was a moderate-sized random battle on the way there, but the raiders were not that hard as they blasted most of them with spells before they got within range.The only surprise was when Kaos pulled kaçak iddaa (http://www.pongp.com/) out a wand and tried to blast them, and an elephant appeared and charged the raiders. The survivors made a hasty retreat as the audience roared in laughter. They loved that airheaded Kaos could not tell one wand apart from the other.Finally they were at the Evil Archmage?s chambers. And as before, the plan was to fling the doors open and Kaos and the party mage blast the room with fireballs and lightning. But this time Kaos pushed past the mage which disrupted his spell and walked into the room.Pandemonium erupted in the hall. ?Like, they?re here master!? she exclaimed as she entered the room.?Go stand in the corner my pet, I will take care of them myself.?Some at the table and in the hall were screaming curses at Holly, and I could tell she looked a little nervous. One of the players actually threw a piece of paper at her and said ?Bitch!? But that was our mage, so Holly did not get upset. She knew he was already in on it to a degree.I then had him taunt the party, saying that Kaos would do anything she could just so she could draw them into his trap. So the battle happens. Fireballs and arrows fly back and forth. The bard is knocked u*********s, and the mage is poisoned. Finally the Archmage was dead.But so was the party mage, having died from poison before either of the clerics could save him.?Kill the bitch!? somebody screamed from the audience, and Holly jerked. She then described how she went over and started kicking her dead tormentor, and a spell had been cast on her against her will to make her do those things. Now everybody was getting it as she described how she took out her sword and cut off his head. More than a few even sighed as she described how she went and kissed their dead mage on the forehead, apologizing for what she had been forced to do.Find the papers, realize who was really behind it. Trek back to the city, this time they confronted him in his house. Knock him u*********s, drag him to the King with all the incriminating evidence, laugh as he is sentenced to a slow and painful death.Everybody was standing as the game ended, applauding. It was heady stuff. Holly went and hugged our mage, who could only watch the final part as he was dead.I then stood up and walked over to Holly. Taking her hand I led her to the front of the stage, and with a nod to Gloria I introduced them all to my best friend, who was playing Kaos (pronounced exactly as chaos, but finally her full name displayed on the screen at the back.That was the other shoe dropping, and they loved it.Another long question and answer session while Joe and Mr. Cummings set up a sales table along the wall. Yes, Kaos had been in on it the entire time, and no it was not willing. As the note they found said, it was her job to find a party that might be a threat and give information to the Captain and Archmage so they can set them up and take them out. Yes, I wrote the part of Kaos with Holly in mind. She was involved in it from the start, but even she did not know the final twist until I sprung it on her in the middle of the game the first time. No, originally I handed her a note telling her to turn on the party, but we had done it enough times that it was not needed anymore.Yes, the note is in the book. No, you can do the same thing, but the perfect Kaos has to both be in on it, but not have all the information until it is needed. Yes, you can run Kaos as an NPC, but it?s more fun when it's another player. Finally Mr. Cummings announced that the adventure was available for sale, and right before I left the stage, Linda asked the perfect question.?What kind of elf are you Kaos???Why, like, I?m a Valley Elf, fer sure fer sure!?And that was the last shoe to drop. Everybody howled in laughter as Keith pulled out his guitar and started playing and singing ?Valley Elf? along with Holly as people lined up to buy Chaos in the Capitol.2 hours later my hand was cramped. I found out that we had sold and I had signed 500 copies of the game! We had completely sold out every one that Mr. Cummings had brought, and he had over 100 more orders that would be mailed to the purchasers. I also exchanged addresses with all of the playtest group. I promised that I would call them when my next adventure is ready to be tested.Finally I gave Gloria my address, and she promised to send me a videotape of the recording once she finished editing it down.
